Adopt a Rescue Dog: Bill Needs a Home

On Saturday, I had the chance to spend some time with Bill, one of Gateway Pet Guardians rescue dogs who is looking for a forever home.

While most of the dogs that Gateway Pet Guardians rescues come directly from the streets of East St. Louis, we also work with St. Clair County Animal Control to save some of the strays that they have in their shelter. Bill and his brother Ted came to us from Animal Control…yes whoever named them has a sense of humor!

Ted was adopted quickly and Bill went to a foster home. Bill’s foster mom adores Bill, but she ended up having to move and she wasn’t able to take Bill with her, so he is back at the shelter now looking for a forever home (or a foster home until he gets adopted).

UPDATE: I just found out that Bill is going to a foster home with one of our new fosters…so now we just need his forever family!

Bill is about 11 months old and it’s a total guess what breed he is. Gateway has him listed as a Basset Hound/Terrier mix, but everyone I talked to at the adoption event had a different guess. Maybe there is some Pittie in him, maybe some lab. He currently weighs about 40 lbs and probably won’t get a lot bigger.

But it really doesn’t matter…he’s adorable.

And he has the softest fur…you won’t want to stop petting him.

Bill is a happy boy with a wonderful spirit and puppy energy, so he needs an active family who will play with him and take him on jogs or walks. Bill got along great with the other dogs at the adoption event…puppies to dogs bigger than him, male and female. He is learning the command sit and does well with it when you get his attention focused on you. He is housebroken and crate/kennel trained…he knows that potty belongs outside and hasn’t had any accidents in his kennel.

Bill also did great with the crowds and the kids. After all of the petting and kisses, he simply laid down in the middle of everyone.

Bill does great with people

Don’t those eyes just get to you…it is almost as if he knows he is waiting for his new family.

Later, when I plopped myself in a chair for a few minutes, he immediately crawled under the chair to rest. It was so adorable…he just calmly watched the crowds go by.

Bill has lived through some tough times, scrounging for food and a warm place to sleep on the streets of East St. Louis, and then being separated from his brother. He needs a family to give him everything he deserves…lots of hugs and belly rubs and play time.

If you want to meet Bill, let me know and I can set it up.

If you have room in your heart and your home for this deserving boy, please visit the Gateway Pet Guardians website to learn about our adoption process and apply to adopt Bill. You may also email adopt@gatewaypets.com for more information.
